Chapel
Extension Completed
A great deal
of water has passed under Penpoll Bridge since we first reported plans to
update the chapel facilities. It is
therefore with much pleasure, and a certain amount of relief, that we can
report the work at the chapel to be completed.
Moreover, we have been able to tick off a couple of other items on our
wish list, re-newing the tarmac in the yard for example, which will hopefully
stand us in good stead for the future.
So this is
perhaps the time when a few words of thanks would be appropriate. Firstly to the property committee, who have
born the brunt of the workload, and who at some stages appear to have been
camped out at the chapel; to their back up team, too numerous to mention by
name - the fundraisers, the painters, the cleaners, the wise heads and broad
shoulders; to the workmen (I think they were all men!) who capably and
cheerfully undertook the work for us and lastly, but perhaps most importantly,
to all who contributed so generously, and with such faith and vision, to the
financial targets—a very big thank you!
The facilities now available at the chapel are ones of which we can be proud, and which meet the many and varied demands of the 21st century! We hope you will come to view the work soon, possibly at our open event (see below), and will share in using them for the benefit of the whole community.

Article from Village View, Easter 2004:
At last the proposed works at the Chapel may soon begin. It is not surprising that financial considerations are the final hurdle and some of our members are making investigations to find the best possible deal. This article is written before we know our final financial target but we hope to reduce the worst case scenario of £92,000.00.
We have
already received substantial pledges of financial assistance both from our own
members and from the Truro Methodist Circuit.
We are also actively seeking grant aid from a number of sources. It is not easy to quantify these to give a
final target as our largest pledge (from the Circuit) is a proportion of the
total and until we have that figure we do not know how much more we need to
raise. At the moment we can be
satisfied that we are more than halfway there.
It is clear
however that we will be fundraising locally.
A programme of events has been planned and we hope that folk will be
able to help us. Details of a Safari
Lunch, yoga sessions and the "Quest for the Golden Egg" will be found
elsewhere in this publication. Also coming soon will be a car boot/garage sale
and bistro suppers - look out for posters in all the usual places. The plan is that the sun will shine and that
these will be happy and well attended events. They might even raise some money.
If you feel
able to help in any way please get in touch.
Offers of help for any of the above events or with ideas of your own,
should please be communicated to the Editors (see the back cover). Offers of
financial help - by gift or loan - will be gratefully received by the
treasurer, Malcolm Kingston on 863694.

Extension and Toilets – Penpoll Methodist Church
It’s good to
report that planning permission has now been granted for the improvements as
detailed in the plan alongside.
The proposed
work has now gone out to tender and we hope to be in a position to commence the
work in the spring of next year.
